You need to make sure that your "network name" is entered in whatever setup the card on your Win laptop has-it'll be called an "SSID" or something else equally unintuitive. You may have to select the correct channel, as well.
Unfortunately, since you haven't mentioned the brand and model of card in your laptop, nor any of the steps you have already taken, I can't be more helpful than that.
Question: is your laptop running Win98 or Win98 Second Edition? Big difference in capabilities, and it's worth looking into upgrading. Me? I'd take the plunge and (if it'll handle it) move up to WinXP Pro. Expensive, but MUCH more stable and the Unix-compatible underpinnings begin to show through-maybe they're learning up there in Redmond.
