OK, this is a wierd one to me, granted I'm not exactly an expert on this, but...I've got an NT 4.0 laptop and an XP Workstation hooked up to my Cube, using the Cube as a file/MP3 sharing server. Anyway, everything got along fine until 10.2.3. Now, I can connect to the Windows PCs from the Cube just fine, but I can't go the opposite way. I can ping each workstation from the others, and I've made sure Windows filesharing is on, and I've even repaired disk permissions. Trying to view the Cube in the Windows Workgroups gives me an "Access Denied" error, and trying to use the IP Address or workstation name doens't work. Anyone else have this problem or have any ideas?

I am having similar problems with a connection with Windows on 10.2.3, I cannot connect to a Windows shared printer using samba. It was fine before upgrading. Any suggestions?

OK, well I've tried reinstalling the 10.2.3 update, moving from one workgroup to another and back again, and I stiill can't connect to the Mac from the PCs, either by by browsing Network neighborhood or using the IP address or workstation name. Eventviewer is showing "The redirector timed out a request to.." my Mac and an alert pops up that the request was cancelled whenever I try to connect to the Mac. I'm stumped. Anyone have any tips, ideas, suggestions, or good holiday recipes?

Ok, well I seem to be talking to myself here, but hey, at least I'm not getting any wierd looks
I've looked in the windows server log on my cube and found the following. I know it's long, but if anyone can make any sense of this, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've found quite a few reports of people having various (usually similar) networking issues since 10.2.3, so perhaps it's a bug. Anyway, this is what I found:
Date/Time: 2002-12-20 10:34:03 -0500
OS Version: 10.2.3 (Build 6G30)
Host: Computer.local.

Command: WindowServer
PID: 175

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x2d02020a

I've upgraded to 10.2.3 and have used Samba sucessfully both ways, so this post falls under the "ideas" category...

Almost any time I have problems with Samba and access denied & time out errors, I usually end up finding out that it has to do with firewall configurations. If you have firewalls running on either box, you may want to temporarily disable them and see if the problem goes away; especially on the Mac.

Although I'm not sure exactly what they are, 10.2.3 "delivers enhanced functionality and improved reliability" to IP firewall (according to the README).

I don't have the firewall on the Cube turned on, and as far as I know there aren't any software firewalls on either of the two PCs. I don't have any sort of access controls running on the router that would interfere with the network, so I tend to think it's something specific to the Cube, but thanks for the suggestions, it at least narrows it down a bit.

I think this may be more a problem with "which password on the Mac you use" when connecting from a PC. I don't have this sort of setup, but I've seen a lot of discussion of this subject in this forum. I'd recommend looking for such earlier posts for advice on how to log into a Mac from a PC.

Also, what service pack are you running on the NT box, and do you have XP Pro or XP Home on the other box? This is important because some of the service packs for NT changed the way networking works, and XP Home is pretty anti-networking. Further, if you're trying to set up a "domain" rather than a "work group" with the PCs, you may run into other problems in communicating with your Cube.
