This is a screwy problem with something I must be overlooking. But I can't figure it out.

I own a dual gig, a Ti 867 and Pismo laptops. The dual gig is connected to the web through a cable modem. On that occassion when I want to hook up either of my laptops to the web, I simply unplug the ether from the sual gig and plug it in to the laptop. Works every time...until last week.

I was out of town with my Tibook, and used it in the hotel room with their free hi-speed in-room service. Worked great. When I got back home, I plugged the ether cable into the Tibook, and it wouldn't connect to the internet. Swapping between the dual gig and Pismo proved to work fine, but the Ti just won't connect. During startup, it hangs for a minute looking for a connection, but can't find it.

I've tried PRAM zapping. No luck. My DHCP setting shows that there is no router address.

I'm running 10.2.3.

Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks.

unplug your cable modem for a few minutes and try again.. this almost always fixes problems like this. they usually look for a specific MAC-address (your ethernet card's ID) and will sometimes deny some for one reason or another. unplugging it for a few minutes should clear its memory and hopefully allow you back on with your powerbook.

Check to make sure you're still set to get an automatic IP address. The setup at the hotel is probably very different; it may have created a new "location profile" that includes looking for the system there, instead of your home network. In other words, make sure your TiBook didn't "catch something" from the hotel network that it hasn't been "cured" of.
