Here's the current setup we have. We have cable internet going into the 4 port Linksys router. We also have 4 computers using up the 4 ports on the router.

I am planning on buying an ibook here fairly soon, and I want to use it via wireless tech. So basically what I'm looking at is buying the Airport card along with a WAP, since I already have the router.

My question #1 is: can I use the uplink port on the back of the modem to connect the wap? Or am I going to have to use a hub to connect two of the computers to the router to free up a port?

Question #2: Linksys has the 802.11g WAP available. Will the airport card be able to use this WAP? Or Will I be forced to buy a 802.11b WAP to use with the airport card?

I think that's all I have for now. Thanks!

Answer #1-no you can't use the uplink port if you're already using LAN port #1; the two jacks are connected together, with the uplink port simply wired "backwards" to keep you from needing a crossover cable.

Answer #2-no, an AirPort card won't work with 802.11g. Sorry. The modulation and frequency usage is different.

Suggestion: Instead of buying a WAP11 or similar product, buy a BEFW11S4. The price difference isn't much, the BEFW11S4 has BOTH a 4 port switch and a wireless access point, and you can even split up the load, using both the switch in the BEFW and your current BEFSR41 (I have one of the original version and it's still going strong) and connecting one to the other. (You wind up with six usable ports (one from each is dedicated to the cable connecting them), wireless networking, and not too much out of pocket expense.)
