Hi all,
So...I want to be able to get into my machine at home from work. The problem is that I'm behind a dynamic IP. If it were just one computer it wouldn't be a problem, except that my Linksys is running the show, so my computers have no knowledge of what the REAL IP address is.

What I'd like to do is fire an email to myself at work that says "your cable modem's IP is now xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" when it detects that the IP has changed.

Also, my DNS name changes. I thought that if I could stick with the DNS name while the IP address changed like it did with @Home, I'd be OK, but with Comcast both change now.

Can anything do that?

Sending myself an email twice a day could do the trick I suppose. The problem is that if the email is sent at 8am and the IP changes at 8:01, I'm screwed until the next email comes in.

How about instant messaging solutions? Something to poke me at work that says what I need it to say.

It's called DynamicDNS, they explain everything on the site of how it's to be used.

I've seen that, in fact I used it once but I let it lapse. I was a little nervous about using it since it essentially puts my DNS on the net. I guess it's no different than spammers finding my IP. I have no open ports to my PC except an obscure one that I remapped for access to it so I guess it's no big deal. I'll just use dyndns again. Thanks.
