Hello. I have 2 Macintoshes. A G3 Powerbook Wallstreet and a Beige G3.

They both have got a brand new system installed, OS 9 upgraded to OS 9.1, OS 9.2.1 and finally OS 9.2.2

I want to connect the two computers and have bought a "Crosswired Ethernet Cable".

I also have a 56k modem in the Powerbook that I use to connect to the internet.

In AppleTalk and TCP/IP control panel I am unsure what to do.

AppleTalk will not switch to Ethernet. When I try, it says "an error occured during the attempt to use Ethernet. Check network connections" and when I click OK, it swisthes automatically back the the setting it had (modem port or printer port).

I am also in doubt if I can use both modem and ethernet at the same time.
How shall I set up Appletalk and TCP/IP?

Thank you in advance

/a

Hi!

Before switching to AppleTalk over Ethernet connect both computers with the crossover cable. Then it should work. If it doesnŽt try connecting throught TCP/IP. Setup both computers to use TCP/IP over ethernet. Choose to configure them manually. Give both an unique IP adress. e.g. 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2. Configure the subnet mask on both to 255.255.255.0. Then put filesharing on on one of them. I am speaking of by heart but I think you have to choose in the sharing panel also. Allow filesharing over TCP/IP or something like that.

Once filesharing has started go to the other computer and in Chooser go to AppleShare and push connect?. A window should appear asking for an IP address. Type that of the other computer and it should work.

Post if you still got problems. IŽll try to solve them.

Regards
