Anyone out there put me straight on something.
I feel like it should be possible to connect an airport base station to a mac via the ethernet port and use the base stations modem to get online.

My mac doesn't have airport or a modem.

Yes. The ABS supports connection sharing for both wired and wireless clients, so you shouldn't have a problem here.

I'm not sure what you expect to gain, though - since you say you'll be using the ABS's modem connection you're only going to get regular dialup speeds. The same thing can be achieved with the modem inside your machine (assuming you have one)

Thanks for the quick reply Camelot.

I am getting a good deal on a modemless emac and I plan to get broadband and go wireless in about 6 months after I move house.

The idea is that I can buy the base station now and save AU$200 on a usb modem which I would not need later on.
