Just thought I'd post this to save some heartache and $$. My base station (original model) crapped out the other day. (Blinking 3-amber, solid red, cycle, repeat) I found this article:

I printed the article, took it and the base station to my local electronics repairman.(I don't do soldering) He didn't know what the base station was, but he knew how to replace the dead capacitors. Works fine now...$60CAD vs $199 USD from Apple.

That's great! $60Can is not too bad for the expertise (and professional backing) to replace the dead capacitors, and as you point out, a much better deal than $199US for a new box! (Ok, flying saucer..)

I wonder how many other shops would be willing to attempt this sort of work.
