I am very interested in the news that the new Airport Extreme Base Stations can wirelessly bridge to another Base Station in order to extend the range of an existing Airport network.

My question is this: Does anyone know for sure if an Extreme base station can bridge to a regular base station, or must both base stations be Extreme?

According to this AppleCare Knowledge Base article all involved base stations must be Extreme Base Stations. It is not extremely clear in this regard-it doesn't say it in so many words, but note that at the top of the article, the definition of a Wirelessly Distributed Network is "two or more AirPort Extreme base stations."
