Is there any way to reprogram the DNS information in the old DirecTV gateway routers? They came directly from DirecTV, but now that their DSL service (which was impeccable) has ceased, I have a great router that I can't use, because I can't configure the router.
Does anybody have an idea of how I might do this? Anybody have any luck with this?
Thanks
JB

I don't have any experience with those specific routers, but if you'll post the details (model numbers, etc.) I'm sure somebody knows something about them. From what I remember, they had about three different models of router, depending on when you got service.
I also remember some dire information about the router belonging to DirecTV, and they could come and take it any time they wanted, and there were charges, etc., etc. Did they just say "keep it?"

I"ll try to get the numbers, but I can't look at it right now. DirecTVinternet folded, and they have dropped all service. I suppose they might want the box back, but they've already cut our service, and now the gateway is collecting dust.

Yeah I doubt they are gonna want these routers back. They interrupt our service and they would expect us to send the routers back!!!
From what I read on the fora at dslreports.com, there is nothing really we can do with these anyway. Not sure exactly about the details (meaning I have no clue about the technology) but it seems Telocity/DirectvDSL had a very specific router. The nice thing about these? they were powered by some good ol' PowerPC at 50 MHz. :-)

I'd love to get my hands on one of them to see what's inside (other than the 50MHz PowerPC of course). It's amazing how few really different routers are on the market. Oh, there are a lot of brands, but many of them are OEM'd from the same source, case in point-Asante', US Robotics and SMC get their guts from the same OEM.

here's the information on the gateway (without popping it open).
DirecTV DSL Gateway
Model 10-X204
That's all I have.
Maybe I can pop it open soon.
