Here's the scenario.

Just got my DSL line installed in my apartment. here is how it sets up.

DSL Modem -> Netgear RP614 -> Snow Airport Station (802.11b)

Connected to the Netgear router is my xbox and my airport base station. Airport connected via the WAN port.

The RP614 functions as the DHCP server.

All is fine at first after a fresh restart. However, if I go on campus with my laptop and join their wireless network, and then come home, I cannot get a connection from my DSL line. My router gives me an IP, but I can't ping it, or get any data. Very weird.

The other strange thing is that I usually have a hell of a time getting connected to the Purdue Wireless Network w/o a restart. They use the Cisco VPN Client to connect.

Anyone have any idea what is getting all messed up, and able to offer a solution?

is there any reason you are using your other router to connect to WAN v. your airport base?

Because the other way caused even more trouble for me.

Now I have substituted a Graphite Base station for the Snow one. No solution to having to restart to get on the campus network from that. This is leaving me to believe this is some kind of problem w/ in my software.

What's happening is when you join the network at school it tells your AirPort card that that's what to look for. This is why a fresh restart will get you connected at home. The simple answer is to (you guessed it) do a fresh restart when you get home. Turn off the laptop when you leave school, and turn it back on when you get home. It doesn't take that long to boot !

You may also want to go to Sys Prefs > Network > Airport tab. Try changing the prefs there to another re-connection scheme. Just a thought.

I changed it to connect to the closest network rather than the Last Connected one. let's see how this works.
