I just bought an Orinoco Silver PCMCIA card as I am fed up with my pathetic airport card. I have successfully downloaded/installed the wireless driver from wireless.sourceforge.net.

My problem is, in the Network System Preferences Panel, there is not an option for the Ethernet Adapter. Thus, I cannot configure the computer to see the card. Any suggestions? The help file for the driver just said to open the Network preferences and select the en1 (Ethernet Adapter) option, but it is not there.

Thanks,
Kevin

After multiple reboots, the computer finally "discovered" the card. It works great. I now have wireless access EVERYWHERE in my house!

Anyone with a first gen TiBook should get one. You won't believe the difference.

So, better reception than the Airport card? Sounds like it's worth the expense?

ABSOLUTELY.

I have a two story house, with my router in the basement. The family room on the first floor and one of the bedrooms on the 2nd floor had very intermittent reception. Also, if I was outside on the door step, I had no reception. Now all work great.

Before being flamed for having the router in the basement, I had it on the first floor and the reception was only marginally better.

Easily worth the money for first generation TiBook owners. Supposedly Apple improved the Airport reception in the later TiBooks but it is a basic electromagnetic interference problem between the metallic case and the card. My friend's Pismo G3 Powerbook works great with his airport card in my house.

I bought the card on Ebay for about $45. I'll try it for a few more weeks then I'll likely sell the airport card.
