I just got a Cable Modem/DSL router/firewall and it has the option to set the MTU. I had a cable modem and am wondering if I should specify an MTU or just leave it blank? I'm running 10.2.3.
Thanks for any info!

Cable connections usually require an MTU of 1500, but if it works well (and fast!) with the box empty, leave it.

... unless your cable provider uses PPPoE for authentication, in which case you want an MTU 1492.

PPPoE has an 8-byte overhead which needs to be taken into account.

I agree, though, that the modem should be able to determine this itself, and adust accordingly.
