Hi,
trying to get file sharing setup correctly on my system.
Old PC running win98
New Tibook running 10.2
connected via netgear router.
Can copy files from the shared folder on the pc, to anywhere on the mac,
can't copy files from the mac to the pc.
have pc file sharing turned on on the mac, and tried copying from the mac shared folder to the shared pc folder, and no joy.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
J.

Tried a few more things.
Made sure the workgroup names were the same.
Created a new user with password on the pc (it didn't have a password for the single user before and didn't require logging in.
found that I can connect to the pc from the mac (go, connect to server etc) which seems to work fine, accepts the username and password (what would you expect to see appear after this?
When I try to mount a share from the pc, I map the network drive, give it the details, and it asks for the password for the user on the mac. I give it the password and it keeps telling me the password is not correct (it most certainly is by the way, I've done the usual caps lock checks and stuff, and the password is definitely correct, because I can log into the mac with it.
I'm not sure that I should need to mount a share from the pc. The pc stays in a cupboard, but I would like to copy files to and from the hard drive on it so that I can store and backup the mac etc.
Also I have a windows only printer that I'd like to be able to send files to the pc and print them from there via a vnc window.
I didn't think it would be this hard to achieve. When I try and copy a file from the shared drive on the mac, to the shared folder on the pc, it tells me I don't have sufficient permissions.
Anyone able to suggest something else I can try.
Cheers,
J.

AAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!
Want to know what the problem was. In windows, when you share a drive, it defaults to read only, instead of read/write.
One little mouse click and it works.

doon't ask how long that's taken to find.

Been there, done that, but my frustration was among PC! The one I needed to share was in a different office, and its user had enabled (just enabled) sharing. I saw the folders, could copy from them, but couldn't save!!! Said user has been er, educated. Had it been a Mac giving me that grief, I probably would have gotten at least an understandable error message instead of "access denied." Sigh.
Glad you fixed your problem.
