The only PCI Ethernet card that says that it is compatible with Mac is the Asante.

Can I use any PCI 10/100 Ethernet card?

Just about any PCI NIC should work, but you need to make sure you get one that has Mac drivers. The problem is that there aren't a lot of cards that come with Mac drivers. With OS X you can sort of use Linux or Unix drivers, but with 9, you have a problem. I just looked in several places for different companies that make network cards, and I couldn't find one other than Asante' that had drivers for any Mac OS. Sorry.

Proxim, SMC and Macally used to make PCI NIC's for Macs if memory serves. Haven't checked their web sites lately.

I looked specifically at SMC's site, and didn't find any mention of a Mac driver for any of their PCI NICs. Maybe I was looking in the wrong place...?
