Hi,

I have a G4 dual on order to replace my LInux box. I also have an iBook and an old laptop PC.

I want to use the new Mac as a Firewall and port forwarder like I have been doing with the Linux box.

Can I simply add a PCI network card (with appropriate drivers), then set up the card to access my internet connection, and set up the internal network card to work on my internal network. This is what I currently do with Linux?

Sorry if this is a obvious question, but I cannot find specific answers anywhere.

Thanks!

Yes, you can do that.

You'll just need to enable IP forwarding in /etc/hostconfig.

Just make sure the card you get has Mac OS X drivers available. Since all current Macs include Gig-E, the third-party market for ethernet cards isn't that great and finding a card is harder than it should be.
