I have an old beige g3/g4 and a newish iMac both running OS9 is there anyway to connect them to the same modem without paying the additional $6.95 a month. This is what comcast tech support sent me. I dont need to use both computers at he same time.
Thanks
Lou

One option is to subscribe to a second account for the additional
computer. This would provide you with two modems, and an additional 7
e-mail addresses. It would cost an additional monthly fee (doubling
your current cost).

The other option is to connect your additional computers to your cable
modem through a home network. Generally, a home network consists of two
or more computers with network cards connected with an Ethernet cable
through either an Ethernet Hub or Router. The cable modem would also
plug into this Hub or Router and allow all of the computers to access
the Internet simultaneously. We allow up to five computers per cable
modem.

If connecting via an Ethernet Hub, each additional computer will need
its own IP address request to be able to connect to the net. You can
order an additional IP address request from us for $6.95 a month (fees
may vary from area to area and may include other applicable fees).
Please call your local office if you would like to order an additional
IP address request.

There are only about a bazillion threads on this subject in this forum. Do a search for "router", "share internet" or even just "cable".
Anyway, the short answer is, yes, no problem. Just get a router. There's no way for your ISP to know how many computers are connected, so don't pay the extra money. The router will distribute IP addresses.
