The search engine keeps croaking, so I apologize if this has been covered. I want to know if I can use my cell phone to dial in to the internet (not using bluetooth). Is there some kind of hardware I can use? I don't have a phone yet, so if you know of a particular brand of phone that can do this I would be greatful. I have a Tibook 550 and an old airport base station that both have modems.

That sort of thing usually requires a special cell phone modem. The problem with using a standard modem is that they don't handle the momentary drop outs when changing cell coverages. This can happen, by the way, even if you're standing still; the cell sometimes needs to reapportion usage of its channels, so it can shift any connection from channel to channel.

I have the Motorola C333. It comes with a USB cable for dialing in while attached to a computer. I haven't been able to find the proper software though...

If you have a data enabled phone (which I guess means that it already has an internal modem of some sort) and an IR port, then you can use this combination (at a woefully slow 9600 bps). I have a Nokia 7110 (UK phone, I don't know what the equivalent US number is) which had the functionality out of the box, but requred a special modem script, which I got fromhere

Mine has worked flawlessly (but so slooooooowly) in various flavours of 9 and 10, up to and including 10.2.3
