I just started a home network with the new Linksys G Broadband Router, that shares a cable modem connection between the computers

The computers
HP PC
Dual 500mhz G4
12" PB with airport extreme.

I'm sharing files between the PB and the G4 by checking Personal File Sharing on both machines. I simply log into the G4 and I can mount the drives. However when I'm copying files I get a maximum of 2-3MB/s of data being transmitted. If I attach the PB directly to the hub with an ethernet cable I may see peaks of 5MB/s maximum. Disconnecting the cable modem makes no difference.

Is there something wrong with the router? I have it set to recognize only the MAC address of my PB and turning WEP 128 on and off makes no difference.

Can anyone help?

The wireless 54 Mbps = 6.75 MBps

The wired portion is 100 Mbps = 12.5 MBps

Both are the theoretical maximum speed under ideal conditions.

Thanks, so what I'm seeing probably isn't too far off from what I should be seeing. (And here I was hoping to see transmission rates of 30 or 40 MB/s

What you're seeing is right in line with the usable throughput of both connections. There is quite a lot of overhead in the ethernet specification, and even more in wireless ethernet (to handle the potential loss of a bit or two now and then). You're fine.
