I just bought an Airport card for my G4 867 single. It was marked as 'defective', but the store thought it was because someone just wanted to return it and that it was perfectly good. I figured I would try it for a $10 discount and if it truly was defective, then I could just go in and trade it for a new one (and pay the $10). Well, the card was defective, it didn't show up as installed. But here is the problem - when I went to remove it, it apparently had something protruding on the end of it and when I opened the computer to remove it, it BENT the card on the end near where the antenna was!

My question is - how hard do you have to push the card into the slot to be sure it is seated properly? I hope it wasn't the fact that I had installed the card incorrectly that caused it to not show up as installed. Sometimes I have had to push pretty hard to get RAM seated, so does one have to push that hard? It looked like it was in all the way...

Thank you.

She's too happy!

If it caught on the casing either when you closed the case or opened the case. then it probably (almost certainly) wasn't in all the way, .... BUT you shouldn't have to push it in as hard as RAM. In my 533MP there was resistance to installation pressure, but it wasn't significant. You do, however, get it in the right way (bar code up) or you need a lot of pressure and even then it still won't fit as it is keyed to only go in the right way up.

(OT - The hardest bit for me was connecting the antenna - the installation instructions (pah!) said put it into the hole on the end of the card, but there are 4 holes on the end of the card. I got the right one in the end!)

Thank you! I figured it out last night. I realized I WAS trying to put it in upside down (with the logo up). I am such an idiot. But it is working now.
