Hi all...please forgive (in advance) my long-winded, networking-newbie post... but any help would be greatly appreciated!
I like to think of myself as fairly tech-savvy...as a video editor, I can make an Avid or Final Cut Pro system sing like Etta Fitzgerald...but getting two or more computers to "shake hands" with each other is akin to convincing Saddam Hussein to spend Sunday afternoon watching the game with George W. !
I had been humming along just fine...my PowerMac and my wife's IBM were cruisin' the 'net via a Linksys 4 port wired router attached to a cable modem...until 2 days ago when Airborne rang my bell with a box-full of heaven/hell, consisting of my new TiBook/Airport Base Station (Snow, I believe)/MYOB bundle.
For the next 12 hours, I tried connecting the IBM, PowerMac and TiBook with no success...ran Airport admin utility and Airport setup countless times, plugged this into that...that into this...could only get 1 machine connected to the internet at any given time. Finally decided to sleep on it, unplugged everything and went to bed. Next morning...plug cable modem into WAN on ABS, IBM to LAN on ABS (like I had done several times already) and BAM!! I'm surfin' wirelessly on the new TiBook and wife's IBM is connected too! (must have unplugged, re-plugged everything in just the right sequence, I guess). This is cool, but here's the downside... the Linksys 4 port wired router is disconnected at this point, as is my Powermac G4, and I'm afraid to touch anything for fear of losing it all again! I'd like to get the PowerMac reconnected, but not sure how to go about it...Any thoughts?
BTW...the wife will be taking delivery of a Dell laptop (against my objections...we're a house divided) next week, along with whatever 802.11b card dell ships...should I anticipate another round of networking hell?
Thanks so much for any input you can offer!

--EDIT-- Cursed single malt Scotch!! I meant to say ELLA Fitzgerald...or was it ETTA James? Either is top-notch as far as I'm concerned!

The hard part is done. Now just connect the G4 to the Linksys and connect to it's config page. Turn off DHCP. Save changes. Now this router should act like a hub, which is what you want. Next connect the ABS' LAN port to the Linksys' uplink port (if I remember correctly, you have a choice of either using port 1 or the uplink port; something like that) and the desktops to other remaining open ports. That should do it. Make sure all comps are set for DHCP. If no-go, unplug router for a little while and restart comps.
