Hello Everybody:
This is my first post to this forum, even though I've found a lot of info here.
I just switched to a new 1G Ti Powerbook (still kiss it every morning before I kiss my wife), but I have a lot of files on my old PC with Windows 2000. Last night I was trying to connect them with a crossover cable (unsuccessfully).
First, when using "Connect To Server", my PB was able to see my PC, even asked me for user name and password, but gave me an error (Error -50, I think) when connecting. Later I turned my Ti PB off, and when I turned it on again, it took sometime in the initial screen "loading network properties" or something like that.
After that, it doesn't see my PC anymore.
Please I'm new to Macs and have a total ignorance about networks. Which setting should I turn on or off? I was checking the "Newtwork" and "Sharing" in System Preferences and trying different things, but nothing.
Can anybody help me to find out what I'm doing wrong? I really need a step by step procedure.Or should I go to the book store and buy "How to connect a Mac to a Windows Box For Dummies"?
Thanks in advance

The "Connect to server" should work... for some reason it sometimes fails (bad login/password or ...).

Try the other way around :

On the Mac :
- Go in Sharing preferences
- Enable FTP access

On the PC :
- Open an explorer window
- Enter the following address in the location bar :
ftp://user@ip_of_the_mac

where user is your login name and ip_of_the_mac is the IP address of your mac (see Sharing prefs to know which address your PowerBook is using).

You will be prompted for your password.
Then, you should have access to the home folder of your Mac from the PC, you can copy all the files you need.
