I'm typing this from LAX, on my laptop, which is connected via bluetooth to my phone, which is dialing into my airport base station at home.

I just spent half an hour or so trying to connect and reconnect to my airport base station at home, and finally i gave up and called my sister, who unplugged it and plugged it back in.

My question is, why does the base station require a reset for it to work? Apple problem? My problem? anyone else have this problem?

BTW: MacNN is HELL SLOW on 9600 baud.

It sure looks like you're having problems; you got three entries for you one posts.

As for why the base needed to be reset, I'd say that there is something going on with your service provider dropping your connection after it's been idle a while. I don't recall whether there's a "keep alive" feature in the Admin Utility... If there is, that's what you probably need to adjust to keep your connection hot, and thus avoid the need for a reset.

Albert -- In the 10 days I've had my PB, plus airport Extreme setup, I'd say I've had to unplug it and replug it 4 times. It'll go along fine for a while, then just flake out. Kind of frustrating.

On the Apple discussion boards, there's quite a bit of ranting and raving about it. I'd started a post on this matter (look further down in the topic) -- and someone posted the link to the Apple Boards.

I'm waiting to see how it goes and what others have to say. When it works, it works great! I also may try looking for an "always on" switch, per the suggestion above.

Hmmm -- I just noticed the "dial in" part. I'm using DSL...

Oops! I didn't realize how many people were having disconnect problems with the AE units! Wow! And considering how the original base stations handled their modem connections, it's quite possible that the disconnect problem is the same whether using broadband or dial up. Ouch! Bad equipment, bad!

Does anyone have a hint as to whether Apple is taking this seriously? They got into some deep doo-doo with their handling of problems with the orignial ABS, so I would hope so...
