hi,
i have a sony PCWA-A220 wireless lan base station, and a brand new 12 inch powerbook.

I cant get the powerbook to see the basestation. I am a switcher so I dont know how to go about setting this up on the mac. I try using the network preferences, and the internet connect feature, but it doesnt autodetect, and when i type in the network name (SSID) it doesnt turn up anything.

I verified the AE card works by connecting to my pc in adhoc mode.

How can i debug this and get it working? A big bummer...

get my new mac and cant use the internet!

help!

I'm still not exactly sure mine is set up correctly, but it does work! I have the airport extreme base staton, though.

Try using the Airport Administrator helper application in the utilities folder of your application folder.

I'm not sure if that helps you or not. But givfe it a try.

(And I'm not sure people who've used Macs for years -- as I have -- have any easier time than you getting stuff like this set up! Good luck.

You should start by removing any security on your base station like WEP, SSID Broadcast, MAC restriction. And adding those security feature once you are able to connect on your base.

hi,
yeah i tried that. i even reset it. the 2 pc's just connect with no problems, but i cant get the powerbook to even acknowledge it.

is it possible that although it is wife 802.11b compliant base station, that it just will not work with airport extreme?

i tried to find some monitoring utilities, but macstumbler et al dont seem to support AE cards.

help!

Recheck installation of AE card. Maybe it's a bad card.
