Help blinking ADSL light...

Hi,
I have an ethernet ADSL modem attached to a PowerMac G4 and twice now that I've upped my line from 512K to 1024K I've had my Line Sync light start blinking and so can't log in. The thing is I thought it a phone line problem until it arrived last night when I crashed the system. I cleaned things up and when i rebooted, blinking light. Yet on teh PC, everything worked.
Q. Any way of determing if it's the modem (funny coincidence) or OS and how to fix if it happens again?

This depends on the make and model of modem, and your ISP. There's a lot of variables involved here, but the sync status of your modem is almost certainly NOT connected to your OS, or anything running on your computer. It has to do with the low level signals between your modem and your ISP, not how the data is formed and transfered between your computer and the modem.

Sorry about the delay. Lost the connection again <sigh>. Got to be modem, cable, or the telephone company then. Funny thing is I changed the phone cable for the one which came with the ADSL modem and the phone did nothing for a bit. Only a few minutes later the power light flashed red then brown then it and the sync came up green. Um. Looks like the problem is here. Modem and/or cable. This morning when I was down here on the Mac, the PC's USB modem was working (and that's a real feat). Any other ideas?

It sounds like your phone cord was part of the problem. Some modems are very sensitive to the length and quality of the phone cord, and refuse to work with lesser cords.
Did you get a bunch of little filters to put on your conventional phones? They go between the wall plate and the phone's cord. Their purpose is to keep events on the phone (dial tone) line from affecting the signal on the DSL. If you don't have them employed correctly, you may lose sync when the phone rings or when you pick it up.
If you didn't get those filters, did you get one phone jack that was designated as your DSL jack, and that the installer told you the DSL would only work in that jack? If that's the case, you probably have a whole house filter, which is a better option in many cases-but the DSL will ONLY work in that jack!

The filters are OK. Connection OK this morning, but problems appeared within a day earlier so will wait on the champagne. I'm guessing it was one of two things thatn I changed yesterday: 1) I replaced teh default phone cord I was using with the one that came with the mode after noting reference numbers on it and 2) My new ethernet Mac ADSL modem was at the end of a phone cord extension since I had used it for my regular mode. I disconnected this and plugged the modem directly into the wall. I figured it worked under 512K but 1024K pushed the set up before and it failed. I hope this did it...
