I was wondering if the new Airport Extreme with modem can dial out and start a PPP connection with a service provider like Earthlink? I am asking because I live in Florida and the AE would allow me to use dial-up PPP without worrying about thunderstorms.

Yes. That's what I do. Just make sure you get the AEBS with the modem included, it's an extra 50 bucks.
