Going to local Apple Store next week to buy iMac 17 (called today and the iMac 17 is in stock ) but need help on networking old PC (Dell P3 800 256RDDRAM) with new iMac. The problem is that cannot use wireless due to distance and other factors between locations of the 2 computers (numerous walls, ceiling, kitchen equipment, some steel framing)...best answer appears to be a Cable Phoneline Router. I am on Road Runner.

The most reasonable (pricewise) one is the Linksys Cable Phoneline Router (model HPR0200)...anyone familiar with such networking???????????

There is no software involved per Linksys website and
although this website only mentions Windows OS's, the knowledge base section includes comments on Apple computers.

Thanks for any help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Should work ok. The system doesn't go as fast as regular ethernet, but all the reports I've seen say that it is acceptable, and very simple to set up.

I used the phoneline stuff a few years ago. Speed was acceptable. Just as long as it works with the Mac, you should be good to go.
