Any modem with an ethernet connection will "work" with an AirPort Extreme base station. Just exactly what it will and will not do depends on the ISP, the kind of service you're paying for, and a lot of other variables. If the Alcatel works for your ISP, then you'll be able to connect to it with the AE base station. You may want to use an inexpensive gateway router between the two to isolate your base station from the modem, in case the ISP doesn't like AirPort products and chooses to do something to keep you from connecting.

I'm using it with no issues. Hasn't ever dropped a connection on me or anything. Very reliable modem.

Thx idrivex and GHPorter,
1) I have been with constant dialogue with the local support for Alcatel in Singapore, and they said there are working with Apple to provide some support.
Initially, they told me I need MacPoet, being new to this MacWorld, I downloaded some MacOS9.2 MacPoet from a site, and used that, but only got to an error message which said "Cannot open source stream".
Next I called AppleCare which walked me through in MacOS10.2 steps. Apparently, the MacPoet is built-in, true or not dont know. Still didn't work. Then, AppleCare to set-up the modem as Bridge, which I had no clue nor did AppleCare have a unit to tell me how.
So I was back to Alcatel, and pleading for support....anyone else can help.
2) I am reading in some forums that I could use my current USB ADSL modem which is connected to my WinXP home, by sharing the connection. But my PB for some reason cannot get through. What to do?

What you really need is an ethernet modem and an inexpensive router. It's typical to require PPPoE authentication on a DSL connection, and MacPOET works OK at that. I haven't played with it, but I think Jaguar has PPPoE built in. On the other hand, if you get an inexpensive router with built in PPPoE you don't need ANY special software on your computer. This is all based, of course on having an ethernet modem.
If your ISP can get you, or recommend for you, an ethernet modem, that's the best option for you. If they can't, start thinking about moving up to Jaguar, which handles PPPoE natively. Another software option is called Enternet, which is available for the Mac. Try a search on that name and see what comes up.
