I need some help with networking.

now, we've just got my sister a 2nd hand slot loading iMac 350mhz. A nice computer
Now, we want to network it to my iMac FP - mainly so I can share the internet connection, and my printer, to her.

Now. the two computers are networked via an ethernet switch. Thus far, we can connect to eachother via "go > connect to server" (and we both automatically appear in that window). And I can get her to appear in my rendezvous iChat list, but I don't appear in hers. (and if I start a conversation, I appear only as "192.168.2.1" - ie. my local ip address.
Internet sharing does not work at all, even though it is turned on from my end. I haven't tried printer sharing yet (I haven't installed the drivers for my printer on her mac yet)

I connect to the net via the internal 56k modem, on dialup. We're both running 10.2, and appletalk is turned on on both.

Can anyone help? i thought rendezvous was meant to make this foolproof....

ok, I've solved the problem of not appearing in the iChat list by installing the BSD subsystem (which i opted out of on system install, trying to save disk space). and putting our network settings in manually, as opposed to DHCP.

Internet Sharing still does not work however, which is the most important thing
so help will still be much appreciated

I also have the iChat problem. Maybe this is now enough to state a report to Apple. Also the file sharing via Airport is sometimes behaving strange. Then, when the connection is lost, two machines won't find each other over the Airport net anymore. Also using the DHCP setting.

opsotta - iChat can be fixed, as I discovered (and mentioned) by using manual settings. switching to DHPC makes iChat go offline.

PPPPLLLLLEEEEEAAAAASSSSEEEE People
Can someone PLEASE tell me how to get this working. Surely someone can take the time out of bitching about tabs in safari for the 100th time to tell me how they went about sharing the net over their 2 macs.

I've tried every option in the Network pref pane. I've tried IPNetShare. I've tried PPoE. I've tried turning on every service under the sun.
Please someone, I am begging here.

OK, I got it working. No thanks to the people here.
But in the interests of the future, if someone else has the same problem - I present to you the solution:

go to your ISP's website and get their Primary DNS number.
Open up the network preferences of the secondary (or tertiary...so on) machine (ie. not the one with the net connection) - and in DNS Servers, of the TCP/IP tab under "built-in ethernet". type in that number and apply.
If you want, also put this number in on the host machine (but under "built-in modem" or whatever connection you have, instead of ethernet)
