Does the wireless card need to be an extreme airport card to work with the Dr.Bott antenna plugged into a Extreme bas station?

I just plugged my new Dr. Bott Omni antenna into my Extreme base and did not get any difference in signal strength with my normal airport card (extreme card will be installed in new 17" when it arrives)

???????????

No, any wireless card will benefit from the antenna. You won't necessarily see a signal strength increase, but what you will see is the ability to still receive wireless signals from a greater distance away from the AE Base Station.

thanks for the reply --I am not getting an increase? Should the antenna be pointed in a certain direction (its an omni?) I get exactly what I got before.

You're not getting any benefits whatsoever? Try this...power down the Base Station and unhook the antenna. Power up, get online, and start walking away from the Base Station while contiually refreshing an internet page...see how far away you can walk before it won't refreh anymore because it's not getting signal, and mark that spot. Now, power down the Base Station and plug the antenna in, power up, and do the same walking away process, and see if you can get further. You should be able to. If you complete this process and still can't get any further, call Dr. Bott, or whevever you got it from, because it should honestly increase your wireless signal range. Good luck!

Thanks -but I did the test and I loose the signal in the exact same place. 2 things : either my card is faulty or you need extreme compatability with each other (card/base)

i just got off the phone with Dr. bott and they said that the CARD MUST BE EXTREME AND THE BASE MUST BE EXTREME. You will not get any signal increase from a normal airport card

Hmm...I find that extremely hard to believe, and I think they're trying to pull one over on you. The reason being, is that using the standard (no antenna attached) AirPort Extreme Base, an AirPort Extreme Card will receive Extreme signals up to 50 ft., and normal signals up to 150 ft. away. A normal AirPort card will get normal signal all 150 ft. BUT, with the antenna attached it should not only boost how far it can exert Extreme signals, but also normal signals as well, thus giving you greater range all around.

I'd seriously question this...
