I finally got it to see the other computer but it's asking me for a password...i don't remember setting up a password to the PC....any ideas?

I'm trying to move files from my pc to my new and first mac.

Have you tried leaving it blank?

Depending on the Windows version and its security settings, you'll probably get a prompt for a password, even if the password is blank. You should also have whatever you're sharing on the PC shared with full access rights. It's a good idea to look at the PC's sharing settings very carefully before you start logging into it from your Mac. I've had this sort of confusion crop up while trying to share from one PC to another, do don't get discouraged.

thanks for the input every...i have another hurdle...the computer is asking for a password at bootup...we..never set one..so i have to find a way to get arount that..

There should be a jumper on the motherboard that deletes the password-and probably clears the rest of the CMOS memory as well. If you can, find out what your motherboard's model number is, and search for that. You can probably find all the data you need on the manufacturer's web site, once you identify the board.

This problem is a bit of a pain, but nothing that's too difficult to get past.
