this is my problem, i can access my computer using a web browser somewhere else, but what i want to do is, to have someone else accessing my mac through a windows pc, but this person could only be able to see a folder that i give him/her permission to, and then we could share files through that, download or upload files there ....
does anyone have a detailed explanation on how to do that ?

Don't have a detailed idea, but I think you System Preferences/Sharing . I am not sure if you can access that over TCP/IP or if that only works on LANs though. Another possiblity would be to set up a WebDAV server on your machine. Once again not sure about the details but from what I have read it seems this would work for you also. . .

i am not a os x expert, but this should work:

1. create an account for the person on your mac. grant the account permissions based on what you want them to be able to do (i.e. write, but no read permissions, etc.)

2. open preferences -> sharing -> enable ftp

3. let the person connect to your machine using their ftp client with *their* account credentials. this should put them within their account folder on your machine (i.e. no access to any other folders, etc.)

take note that if you are on a private network a new issue is connecting to that. what i mean is that if you are having someone somerwhere else try and connect to your machine they must first establish a connection to your network via a vpn, pptp or some other mechanism before they will be able to map their ftp client to your mac (which would be on a non-routable/private ip).

hope that helps.

oh yea, mac experts let me know if i am full of it... this is just what i figured out in the week i have had my mac...
