I just got anew d-link router (DI-614+) and it worked perfectly with my dsl first try setting it up, etc. Only problem is that now when i play certain online games, they are ultra laggy. When i have the DSL plugged right into the computer there is no lag, and ther was never a problem with my old (now broken) router. Any suggestions? I set this computer to be in DMZ but that didn't help anything...

What have you changed from the factory default settings, and what games are you experiencing lags with? What brand and model was your broken router? How did you have it set up? Also, what DSL service are you using? There are lots of variables here. Give us something to help you with.

The only online gaming i've tested at this point is on Battle.net. the DSL is SBC/pacific bell. As I said, i have never experienced any problems like this with prevous schemes like with my old router or just direct connect from dsl modem to PC. My new router has a config page for "Applications" and it states that certain applications that require multiple connections require special attention, and I can specify trigger ports and such on there. Bandwidth is no problem when downloading from kazaa, or off ftp, or whatever. As soon as I go into battle.net everything is very laggy, and the machine reports very very low network usage.

Oh, and I didn't change any factory settings initially, when I first experienced the problem. The only stuff i set was turned DHCP off, and set my user name and pass for PPPoE (duh...)

I'm going to take a wild guess and ask you to look at your MTU setting. It's on the WAN tab of your router's setup. The typical MTU for a DSL connection is 1492 (because PPPoE eats up 8 bytes per package in extra overhead) and SBC is pretty typical in their setups-I'm on SBC and I run 1492.
If you're running with a default MTU of 1500 (which is pretty typical for a default setting and works fine with cable), you're experiencing serious packet fragmentation, which will show up most in full packets-like game data.

I just got the 614+ and tried to setup a game of TacOps so my friend and I could play 1 v. 1. I used to have cable (and no router) and I would just setup the game and he could connect no problem. Now I have DSL so I had to get a router to even connect in OS 9 and play TacOps. I suspect it has something to with automatic port blocking or the built in firewall. How do I allow others to connect to my game?
Thanks in advance....
