Hi, here is my set up. I have an indigo clamshell ibook (os 9.2.2), an icebook (700Mhz) OSX.2.4 and will be receiving shortly a 12.1" powerbook. All have airport cards installed and an Airport extreme base station is coming with the powerbook.
Where I live in southern Ireland , currently the choices are dial-up and ISDN , (broad band is coming in June).
1)If I get an ISDN line, do I need anything else to connect the base station to the line?
2)If I up-grade to broadband (whenever our phone company gets around to it ,do I need anything else to connect airport?
I appreciate any advice or if there is anything I left out, please advise! The phone company has NO Mac support and were no help at all. I turn to you guys as usual!!

Yes - or maybe. What's the output from your ISDN line? Does the ISDN line go into a router that then provides you with an ethernet port? If so, simply plug the ethernet line into the back of your Airport and you're good to go. If not, you've got to get an ISDN router that offers ethernet. You can't plug an ISDN line into the back of the Airport (although the cable type is the same size...!).

I used ISDN several years ago and initially had a specific ISDN PC card that went in the back of my PC. I used the PC with another NIC and was able to have multiple machines use the ISDN line but it was a pain in the butt!!

There are a number of manufacturer's out there that offer ISDN routers - and I'm certain your local resellers will be familiar with them if ISDN is popular in your area.

Thanks Danbrew,
The output is 64kbps on one line and 128kbps if you use both lines....there is no router, just the ISDN cable. Can you recommend a router, forgive my ignorance but I'm not really sure what a router even is except that's it's got a few ethernet ports..
Thanks

Im currently playing with the same idea.

I currently have adsl but am moving to a house where isdn is my only option.

my proposed solution is here

A lot of modern isdn connections achieve 128kbs by connecting via usb with a driver for mac osx (like my one will).

Im not sure you can even by a router that converts usb isdn into ethernet tcp/ip.

Look at diagram.this

A better way to do it might be to connect the airport base station to your mac via the ethernet cable (as a bridge) and share the connection via your ethernet port (in the mac osx system preferences).

Thats what I intend to try anyway.

1 Other possible solution is directly sharing the connection using your base machine as a software base station, and communicating directly to another machine via airport cards with no base station in between.

All theory for now. I move in just under 2 weeks and hopfeull isdn will be installed soon after, so Ill report back my experience asap.

G5 Imac, 17", 1.9Ghz, 1.5GB RAM, 128MB video, built in isight, airport and bluetooth
Indigo iBook, 366mhz; 320MB RAM; CD; FW; Airport
