I only ask this because I cannot find info on it anywhere. I got it from VersionTracker but it appears to have been pulled from apples site and software update. Anybody have any info or warnings about this version?

Well, call me naive, but I installed it. I haven't had anything bad happen.

I should note, though, that I don't have a base station, so I didn't update any firmware or anything.

why would they release software, but not information about what it does/what its purpose is?

i mean. its a full point release so theoretically it should be a substantial update.

I installed it yesterday on my iBook. Apparently the release contains some updated firmware for AirPort Extreme base stations. But there was no new base station software for the snow base station.

The client software has an updated user interface. In particular, the Airport Admin utility has a simplified interface for non techie types with a buttons (sort of like a tabbed interface, but with buttons) for...

Summary: shows an overview of your base station setup.
Name and Password: self explanatory
Internet Connection: Your PPP(OE) setup
Show All Settings: This is the same as the old software. You can change all network settings here. It's like an Advanced tab.

I think it's probably better for the non-technical types.

More interesting (perhaps) is that they included a Java app to let both Airport and non-Airport Macs control the modem status on the base station. It let's you connect and dicsonnect the modem, and identifies the connection status and speed. Until now, wired Macs using a base station had no way to control the modem.

The package also updates the Airport kernel extensions.

I installed it and it works fine, but it changed my Airport Extreme software back from v 5.0.3 to 5.0.1.

Ok, I downloaded the Airport 3.0 Upgrade software, upgraded the Airport Admin Utility on my 12" Powerbook. When I try to upload the upgrade to my Airport Extreme Base Station and click on Upload it wants to know where the file is located. How would I know this? I read the Apple instructions on this process over and over--they say "it will prompt you." I got no prompt, I clicked on Upload while in the Airport Admin Utility and then it brought up my documents, etc. . . What am I doing wrong?

Please help!

Well, I found the answer to my post. The Airport Extreme Base Station Upgrade is a separate download at Apple. (No where does any documentation say that!) But--after looking around the Apple Support Pages and Discussion Forums I found that I had to download a separate file for the Airport Base Station. Anyway, problem solved.
