On macnn's main page they posted this:

MacWireless offers alternative AirPort power

MacWireless Power Over Ethernet (POE) allows users to mount an AirPort base station without a nearby electric power outlet. The updated version now uses a compact cable assembly approach, allowing users to use any Ethernet cable to carry power to the Base Station--up to 250 feet away for AirPort snow (Dual-Ethernet) and 150 feet away for AirPort graphite (Single-Ethernet). A pair of adapters carry the DC power in the data cable. It is $30 (but does not work with Airport Extreme, which the company says it is now designing)
----------------------

Now I have the SMC 7004AWBR Wireless router and I am wondering if anyone knows if this POE adapter will work with my router. I emailed the people at Macwireless and they were very friendly, but they said that it will work IF the device uses the following DC power Jack: Barrel type, 5.5mm-outer diameter, 2.5mm-inner diameter. Now I have called SMC and they were unable to answer this question (for some odd reason, spoke to three people!) and I have I have looked all over the power adapter connected to this router and I see nothing. The spec sheets for the router itself on SMC's site lists nothing regarding this information. Does anyone know if it meets the specifications listed above or where I can find this information out at?

Thank you for anyone and everyone's time.
peace,

ciphun

If you can't get escalated to someone at SMC who knows, unplug your router and take the plug to an Apple store. Compare this to an ABS plug.

Make sure you check all the specs on the product before you buy it. It should have the SAME voltage, and provide AT LEAST AS MUCH current (amps) as the AirPort power supply does. A lower or higher voltage puts serious strain on the components, and less current capacity will cause the voltage to fall when the current requirement rises.
