You're probably looking for professional access points-Cisco is one place to start looking. The problem with really big ranges is that you need several access points that work together, and sometimes that can be a hassle. You'll need a switch with enough ports for all the access points, but you have to remember that there's a length limitation for ethernet cables of 100 meters, so you may have to be creative in how you arrange the access points and how they're connected.
The configuration isn't hard to handle-you'll set things up for roaming access. Everything will have the same network name (which is called an Extended Service Set ID with roaming), but each access point will be on a different channel. Your computer will figure out which has the stronger signal, and connect to that one. As you move from one access point to another, the computer connects to the access point with the best signal. This is very much like the way cell phones work.
Good luck.

When you say ranch, do you mean covering all the land or just parts of it, like around certain buildings?

Ya, that's what I figured. You might want to check out the Airport Extreme bases stations, then. If one of them doesn't provide enough coverage, you can add another in a different location and they will bridge together wirelessly. This is similar to what GHPorter was describing, but with no cables running to the remote base. Very cool.

It says "2 or more" on Apple's site (scroll to bottom right). This is way cool I think. Definitely a STRONG argument for the AEBS. Much better than external antennas and such. If you set this up, please post back here with results.
