This may be a stupid question, but I just want to make sure!

I can use the new Airport Extreme card in my 500mhz/dual-USB/iBook (May 2001), right?

I am finally coming out of the dark ages and getting to use my father's cable modem and we are going wireless! I am such a geek, I know, but I am very excited!!

Thanks!

Not a stupid question, but I don't have a good answer. No, you can't use the AE card in your iBook. The airport cards are completely different and AE is only supported on the 17" and 12" PowerBooks and the new towers.

I can't recall where I read it, but the airport bus in the older macs can't support the speeds available in AE, so Apple isn't going to bother making cards for the older machines.

Now, if you got an (older) airport card for your iBook, it will still work with an AE base station. But you will be limited to 11 MBps speed...

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

Hey, anything is better than dial-up!
So I just need the regular Airport card, then?
::sniff:: I have an older Mac now! (just kidding!)
