HELP!!!!

I was on the phone with D-Link tech support and they can'ty help me, so I'm now asking the experts.

Per some advice I got here I purchased a D-Link DWL-810+ for use on an older mac...but I thought it would be easier to configure using my iBook (rev A, OS 10.2.5).

I am trying to get the darn thing to connect to my ABS, named NDBounce's Base Station and with a Network name of NDBounce

I the thing seems to see the base station, and ID's its MAC address (BTW I have no clue what a MAC address is, but it is the same number as the Airport ID on the bottom of my ABS).

In the SSID field I have typed in NDBounce

The ABS does not have any encryption on it, but it is on that mode where it does not broadcast it's name (thus when I log on I have to type the name NDBounce manually)

I have the thing connected to the ethernet port of my iBook. But I cannot get it to give me an IP. My iBook keeps self assigning. I tried to manually make up an IP of 192.168.0.20 and used subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and router of 192.168.0.30 (which is the IP address of the D-Link 810+).

I have tried both Static IP and Dynamic IP for the D-Link. I have tried putting 10.0.1.1 (the ABS IP) into the gateway field for the D-Link. That did not help. I also tried to give the D-Link a static IP of 10.0.1.12 using that gateway. Again no luck.

The D-Link is on infastructure mode, not ad-hoc, which I am told is correct.

Any suggestions? Can someone who has one of these things tell me how to get it to work. My main problem seems to be that my iBook cannot get an IP from the thing and self assigns every time I switch it to DHCP.

Also, note that I am 99.9% certain that he ABS is not the problem as 2 other machines are on the network and it works fine, also my iBook is on the network and it works fine when I switch from ethernet to Airport.

BTW I did download the latest firmware from D-Link so that also is not the issue.

Sorry for the long post, I hope someone can give me an idea as to what may be going on. Knowing me it may be something stupid like I left something unchecked that needed to be checked, etc.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Peace,

O

Hmm. I configured a WET11 (Linksys equivalent) recently using static IPs, and I used ad hoc mode when setting it up.
