I have been trying to fileshare between WinXP laptop and Mac OS10.2.4 desktop. Before I got DSL connection and router DAVE worked very well. To make a long story short I'll get to my point.

Some DAVE file is currently missing so I get a message saying DAVE isn't configured properly. I tried to re-install DAVE but it says files are already present. I found and deleted all "DAVE" files tried to reinstall; I got the same message and it doesn't let me install over the files it says are there.

Suggestions for reinstalling DAVE?

I've also tried to set up OSX file sharing but every time I try to connect to the laptop it telss me that DAVE isn't configured properly. So it looks like I need to get rid of DAVE files whether I want to re-install DAVE or share files through OS X.

You can EITHER use Dave OR OS 10+ file sharing. If you have Dave installed, you can't use the OS native functions, because Dave preempts them. If Dave is so hosed up that you can't completely uninstall it, then you may have to reinstall your OS, or worse, reformat the drive and start over.

Isn't there an application installation log buried deep in the innards of OS X that tells you exactly which files were installed with which application? I can't remember exactly where this log would be found (the folder has a different name from the Linux equivalent, and Linux gives it a name that's different from BSD and any other flavor of Unix). Anyway, if you can find that log, you can manually remove all the Dave files, which should let you use the OS file sharing.
