I have set up a G4 cube to internet share via airport with my iBook and all works fine except when the firewall is turned on, on the G4. The iBook will pick up the signal but I can't browse the web. I have tried to open ports 1-11 on the built-in firewall but that did no good and before I try all the ports and die before I ever find which one it was, I was hoping that someone already knew the answer. Thanks

I think that it is the personal firewall that's the problem. What you're trying to do is to pass everything from the G4 through the wireless network, but since you're using the firewall, it complains about what you're trying to pass. One solution is to look into a wireless router, such as the Netgear 814 or the Linksys BEFW11S4. These boxes handle a type of filtering called Network Address Translation or NAT, which acts as a sort of firewall. They also allow you to use EITHER computer, regardless of whether or not the other's on (getting tired of making sure the G4 is on before trying to use your iBook yet?). Finally, using a separate router allows you to turn on personal firewall for both computers and protect yourself exactly the way that's right for each computer.

That would be the best solution if I was always using the ibook wirelessly (don't know if that is a word), but normally it is wired and I would only rarely use it unwired. That is why I was just wondering if there was a "quick" fix. It really isn't that big of a deal to turn the firewall off because the main router that I have has a built in firewall. Thanks for the advice though, I would love to go all wireless but there are other complications with that option for me and of course it is too expensive for me right now (I am living off of goverment loans right now).

Whatever's cool for you. You can find wireless routers (like the Netgear MR-814) for around $50 if you look hard. Something to keep in mind...
