Hi all - I'm a Mac newbie with a 17" powerbook and a Netgear 802.11g wireless access point connected to a Netgear 802.11b wireless router. I've been surfing the internet and then realized when I checked the Network Utility that I was connected only through 802.11b. I made the computer connect to the 802.11g network, and I got a strong signal, but I can't connect to the internet through it. The Airport Setup Assistant supposedly configured everything just fine, but the access point does not show up when I use the Airport Admin Utility.

This is driving me crazy!!! Please help!

There are several issues here...
A wireless access point and a wireless router? What do you mean by this?

Any .11b device on the network will force all connections to .11b instead of .11g.

And finally, if you're just surfing the web, .11b is plenty fast. Much faster than your internet connection.

Not a network genious, but the problem probably lies with the two wireless access points working simultaneouls as the previous poster mentioned. 802.11g and b are compatible, but the deafult is the lowest common denominator which is the 11Mb b. On a G network, is a single unit connects using B the whole network downgrades to the B. If you have specific need for wired use you should get an 802.11g wirelss router or if you want get a simple wired router and have one of the lines lead to the wireless access point. This would eliminate the presence of an 802.11b device being connected to your network and keep the spwwd at G levels. Also, I dont think that you can configure the Netgear station using the Admin Utility. That is meant for Apple Base stations.
