OK I thought I would look for help here before I officially lose my lid. I have a graphite airport basestation. I connect my TiBook 500 to it. I want to set the base station to share a single IP so I can connect more wireless devices and allow them to access the internet. The problem is, when I set the station to share IPs, I lose Rendezvous, and can't print via my Epson Stylus, which is being served by USB printer sharing (on a machine connected via ethernet.) I can connect to internet, and afp, but Rendezvous, and thus printing, is out the window.

This just will not stand. I won't have it.

I'm really hoping someone can help me figure this out, because it's driving me bezerk. I've tried every setup I can think of, but nothing seems to work.

I'm sorry if this problem wasn't presented in the clearest possible fashion. I'm too bent out shape right now to think clearly. Let me know what further details are needed. TIA.

Well I tried to get the printer working over CUPS. Not a chance I can get a proper setup there.

What exactly are you doing when you say "I want to set the base station to share a single IP"? I don't get this, cuz this is what the ABS does. It shares an IP with multiple devices.

I've found Rendezvous to be completely temperamental, random, and crappy.

Today it'll work, tomorrow it won't, the day after it'll go half-half. The implementation right now is utter sh!t.

Try turning off any firewall software, first of all... the built in firewall especially. Getting any -36 errors anywhere? When using AFP?

I have never heard of Samba setups that get tempramental, as Rendezvous seems to. It's more work to set up, but Samba's more stable.

Hehe yeh that wasn't very clear.

You can actually share multiple IPs too.

But I've tried all that and still no luck. I'm leaving it be for now. I'll give it another go after I gather some more advice. If it still doesn't work than I'm going to look into getting some kind of networking devive that will let me do it. Maybe a wireless print server would do the trick. Plus I'm looking for a new printer. My Epson Stylus 777i just isn't cutting the mustard anymore.

In this particular case it was actually OK, when I used a static IP for the TiBook. But it uses an IP for the Airport itself too. And static IPs are too precious to spend on Airport alone. I would be better off with a straight wireless bridge actually. Then use something else to do wireless DHCP or NAT if I needed it.

Sooooooo frustrating.

This isn't exactly helpful as I have yet to actually set up my PB so I can do wireless printing, but I found the Apple discussion boards to be very helpful. There are a lot of people with similar problems -- head to the apple site and look for your topic in the discussions section. And good luck.

I have this working without problems with a graphite ABS, two ethernet connected computers and two wireless computers. ABS distributes IP addresses, client computers set to connect using DHCP. My DSL Modem, ABS, two computers, and a laser printer are connected to an ethernet hub. All computers see the laser printer no problem. Also able to share Epson ink jet printer connected to one of the wired iMacs. No special configuration was needed. I just added the Epson printer in Print Center. Rendezvous has worked flawlessly. Keep hope alive.

I've looked over my ABS settings...note that I have Allow Airport to Ethernet Bridging checked. This might be the key to getting your printer / rendezvous to work. Worth a try.

Thanks. That's good to know. Is your Epson ink jet connected via USB?

I have the ethernet bridging checked. For some reason it doesn't seem to make a difference .

Thanks bbales. I'll head over there as soon as I'm up to facing this problem again.

Anybody else have any suggestions? I'm sure there's a way to make this work.
