I have a SMC wireless router with several XP box connected to it through hard wire. I also have a SMC Wireless PC Card that I use on a Toshiba XP system. This card works fine with Toshiba. I would like to use this same card for my Powerbook Ti-550. The questions are: Can this be done? If so, how do I configure the Powerbook to recognize that the card is plugged in?

On a separate issue. When the Powerbook is connected to the router to access the internet, how do you configure the Powerbook to keep the connection. I noticed that it drops connection after awhile. I am nit sure whether it does this automatically when the screensavers comes on or not.

Please help.

I thank you all for any comments you may have.

Unless SMC provides a Mac driver for their PCMCIA card, the answer is "NO, it won't work in your PowerBook. Original AirPort cards only cost a little more than other brands, and WILL work, though the titanium case of the TiBook makes for some interesting signal issues.

I am having the same problem with my TiBook and SMC wireless router. The connection just drops if I'm not using the TiBook. In fact it even disappears from the Airport drop down list of available networks. Very irritating.

Any solution to this?

I'm getting the same thing with my netgear router. It's driving me nuts. Surprisingly though, it works better with my Tibook than with my wifes 12" alubook.

I'm also getting a lot of 'server not found' errors' when browsing. Waiting a minute and trying again often gets a connection.

The ping to dns servers seems to work fine.

I'm about to ebay my netgear router and buy an airport base station at this rate. I can't believe that it's so bad.

I'll be watching for replies here, because I'd love to get it fixed.
