We have a working network here at school. A DHCP Server is taking care of the IPs and we have an AppleTalk Zone and so on. In our lil room here we have a hub and on this hub is my AEBS connected. I disabled distribute IP Adresses because i wanna get an IP from the schools Server so that i can use the Apple Talk Zone. The Basestation gets their IP via DHCP too.

on the one hand it looks like everything works. i can access my computer from all the other machines via ssh, apple talk, samba or http. the other way around works too.
the internet is nice and fast

BUT: if i wanna copy files then the whole thing slows down. i mean it really slows down. it takes me 53 minutes for 3,7 MB image from the server. I am connected via Apple talk to it. Samba is working a bit faster but not really nice. And the internet is working the whole time fine.

i have no clue what is wrong. The chunks the progress bar is doing while copying is pretty remarkable. it is jumping in 200 KB steps.

what can we do to use the network here like anybody else but wireless??? It doesn't matter if i switch to 802.11g only or still compatible.

please can somebody give me hint where i should start searching???

thanks

What else is connected to that hub? Can you disconnect it and put that line directly into the AEBS? Try that. It may be that you need a switch there instead. Otherwise it sounds like you are on a different subnet than the server. This can cause data to transfer over the internet, instead of the LAN. Check the IP of the server.

i checked the subnet mask and the ip everything should be fine.

i get IP Adresses from the schools DHCP Servers. It is in the range 172.16.8.xxx This is the same for all the others
the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0
and the router is 172.16.0.1

As i wrote it doesn't change if i enter everything manually.

well i will try the non hub version. maybe this helps.
