I've got a new problem that's driving me nuts... my Asante FriendlyNet router craps out on me every time I put my mac to sleep and then wake it up again. I have to manually unplug / replug the router to get it working again. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Is it the router? Is it my mac? Help! Thanks.

I'm experiencing a similar problem. I have a computer to computer network with a Linux box that has a pcmcia wireless card. When waking from sleep, the PB fails to renew the IP address from the Linux box. My work-supplied Thinkpad does not have this problem. I have to switch to another wireless network (neighbors) and back to mine to get the IP address to renew. I'm thinking this is a OS X bug.

A lot of people have this sort of problem; the AirPort card doesn't handle waking up properly. When ericwass unplugs and then plugs back in his Asante router, it tells everything that's been using it that it has new info, thus making all the clients renew their IPs (and DNS, gateway, etc. data). You should be able to manually disconnect then reconnect and get your connection back.
I had a related problem with a PC laptop. I cured it by turning off the power saving feature of the PCMCIA wireless card I was using. I haven't played with an AirPort card lately, but I don't recall there being a setting for turning power saving on and off-if anyone knows where this might be, that's probably the solution.

Thanks for the input, Glen. Sounds like you know your stuff. In my case, however, I'm not working off airport. The router is jacked via ethernet into both my PowerBook and G4 Tower, both of which seem to be having the problem (though now it seems more intermittent). Hmmm...

Eric,
When you wake your PB, can you manually disconnect then reconnect? It may be a deeper issue than I thought. Also do you have OS 9 still loaded, and if so, what happens when you let it go to sleep under 9?

Today's really busy, but I'll test it soon. Thank you for your input. I'll update this thread as soon as I can and if you have a chance you can take a look.
Thanks.
