Just wondering if this is possible? I would like to mount an iMac (new gen) DVD-R on my Dual 867 G4 MDD. Does anyone know how this can be done, if possible at all?

I'm working on a video project of moving all old stuff from DV tapes and 8mm tapes and organizing them on DVD's, but my G4 doesn't have a superdrive and the iMac isn't mine. So I'd rather just do all of the work on my faster G4 and then write it to the drive when done, without having to trasfer all of the files over the network.

I understand that there would be some sort of lag, which is why this probably isn't possible. And if this is the case, is anyone aware of another way to do this?

Thanks!

As with CDs, I'd advise you to move the content to the computer that has the drive you want to write/record with before you try to do the recording. Ethernet makes no guarantees about how quickly packets will arrive or how quickly they can be assembled, which can lead to buffer underrun conditions when you try to write to a networked recordable optical device. I have one drive set aside for that purpose on my machine with a fast burner, so I can dump what I want burned onto it and then burn the discs. Slower, but I don't make coasters, and at about $2.50 a pop DVD-R and DVD+R discs would be pricey coasters.
