I'm having real trouble SSHing into my server over Airport whenever anybody picks up the mobile (read non-cellular) phone, it starts to get all stuttery/laggy etc...

Is this common to all mobile phones with airport X base stations?

Any solutions?

General, here is a response that I posted in another thread about a similar problem.........here ya go........

"Well, if you have a 2.4Ghz phone (especially a Panasonic), then I bet that's the problem. For my pc notebook, I have a Linksys Wireless G notebook card, and both of my 2.4Ghz Panasonic phones would completely kill the connection most of the time. After the connection went dead, the only way to bring it back to life was to unplug and then reset the wireless router. After dealing with this nightmare for far too long, I have since replaced both 2.4Gzh phones with the 900Mhz variety, and now everything works perfectly and I haven't had to unplug or reset the router since I switched both phones. Problem solved. Thats my two cents....."

Thanks - although I think it's going to cost too much to replace all the phones.

General, to save a few bucks, they have some cheapo Panasonic 900Mhz phones at Best Buy for about $15 right now after rebate. I picked one up and it works just fine without hardly any interference, although I live in a relatively small house. I say give it a try, and then you won't have any more network problems related to your 2.4Ghz phones. Its going on 1 month now since I switched phones, and I still haven't had to uplug or reset the wireless router, whereas I had problems every day when using the 2.4Gzh phones. It does suck though that I spent good money on those 2.4Gzh phones, only to have them now sitting in my closet going unused. >:-( Well, you only live once, so I'll suck it up.

Try changing the airport channel.
Move the ABS away from the phone base AND the computer and monitor.

Another strategy, in addition to keeping your AirPort base and laptop away from the phone base and handset, is to put your AirPort base on a high shelf of bookcase. Elevating the wireless base not only puts it farther away from other sources of interference, it also tends to improve range.

I turned the robust function on my base station, It helped with that damn microwave that kept degrading my performance on the graphite basestation but maily move it away from any source and you your self just don't talk on the phone while near your computer or the basestation damn 2.4 ghz phones... i want a 2.4 ghz G4.... hummm

Thanks everyone, I wrote a long(er) response explaining my further investigations. Suffice to say I've given up worrying, and now make sure I don't do anything which requires real time network response - like ssh - when I need to use the phone.

Not particularly clever, and not that useful I'll grant you but I'll survive.

(What is robust function?)

Go look at the Airport Base Station settings.

But yeah, Panasonic 2.4GHz phones are notorious for ruining 802.11b/g. Most other brands of 2.4GHz phones don't cause trouble. In my small apartment, I have a Siemens and my roommate has a V-Tech, both 2.4GHz, and both phones play nice with my 802.11.
Note that my roommate's V-Tech is a $50 phone, nothing expensive by any means!

i thought 802.11g was in the 5GHz range? WHy would a 2.4GHz phone effect it?

b and g are 2.4GHz, a is 5GHz

And if you all want jamming, I've got a 1300W microwave I think it has done a nice job frying my base station
