Hey,
Here's my question. I'm at college, and I have an ethernet cable running from my ethernet jack to a base station. I recently was given a dead imac that is now living again and I want to connect it to the internet too. I know I can share my internet with OS X through ethernet. My question is do I use a crossover cable, or a normal cable? Thanks!

If you're connecting any computer to any non-computer device, use a standard cable. The ONLY purpose for a crossover cable is to connect two computers (or devices that act like computers).
What was wrong with the iMac you resurected, and how did you revive it?

Well, that's the thing. these are two computer's i'm connecting. Sorry if I wasn't clear. Here's the setup I want:
Wall ---(ethernet)--> Base station -(wireless)-> Laptop -(ethernet)->iMac.
This way I can keep the wireless to my laptop, but still get the imac online, with a real ip address from my school. Do I use standard or crossover. Do you see why I'm not sure which to use?
The imac's "analog video board" was dead (according to vmarks) so I bought an adapter he suggested and booted it with my friends LCD and it runs fine.
Thanks,

Ah. That's different. Depending on how new your laptop and the iMac are, they may autosense that they're connected to another computer and adapt accordingly. The way to find out is to set up your connection sharing and plug a standard cable between the two computers. If they talk, fine. If not, you need a crossover cable.

Actually, I don't know which base station you have, but the AEBSs seem to autosense, because I have two Macs connected to them via crossover cables, and they work fine. In fact, one of them didn't work when I tried it with a regular ethernet cable (though there may have been other issues involved).

If it's a snow base station, just plug the iMac into it instead of sharing through the laptop. Then the iMac will have an internet connection even when you take the laptop away.
