Hi,

Just got my hands on a broken airport basestation (first edition). I
think the (known) capacitors are fried. So I have to replace them. The
other problem is that the lucent orinoco wave lan card is missing. And
my question is, can I replace that with a pc orinoco card or has apple
modified the wan lan?

You could put in a WaveLAN/Orinoco card. Either a Silver or Gold version will work. I think it needs to be PC Card, though -- not CardBus.

That said, for the cost of the WaveLAN card, you can buy a whole new non-Apple wireless router.

Will a (secondhand) Avaya Orinoco 11mbit Wireless PCMCIA card work? Can get my hands on such a card.

That sounds like the right card (AT&T->Lucent->Avaya... can't they make up their minds?!).
